Review: The Guncle

Blew me away!

This book came out of nowhere and knocked me over. Instant fan of Mr. Rowley 🙋‍♀️

💛 What I Loved 💛

Patrick: Patrick is someone who is instantly lovable - even if he isn't all that likable - because he so unashamedly and unapologetically himself. He makes no excuses for who he is. He stands by himself. But over the course of the story we still se a transformation in him, which was so heartwarming. He really blossomed and grew with the task of taking care of his niece and nephew, whom he obviously loved and adored.

Family: I really enjoyed how the main theme of this book was family - not just the family you're born with but also the family you make for yourself. Patrick has dual familial bonds with Maisie and Grant - their mother is his best friend and their father his brother - which just makes their relationship extra special. There was also some romance, but it was not the main theme of this book, which I really enjoyed.

Humor: This was an emotional story told with a lot of humor. Patrick has a perfect snark and a way of talking to Maisie and Grant as if they're adults, which just really rounds out his character and provides many humorous scenes.
